Comic Book Review: Wonder Woman Rebirth #1 By Greg Rucka, Matthew Clark, and Liam Sharp

Hello, Fellow Book Worms and Book Dragons!

I have been a fan of Wonder Woman since I was a child. And in one form or another, the Amazon Princess has always been with me. Just recently I was privileged to visit the Wonder Woman Museum run by Wonder Woman creator, William Moulton Marston's family. I will have a full review of my amazing time there soon. But until then, let's talk DC Comics Rebirth.

As many of you may have read in the Darkseid War, Wonder Woman's life was turned upside down when she learned a stunning secret from a dying Amazon warrior. Then, in the Final Days of Superman story line, she watched the Man of Steel die. As the repercussions of DC Universe Rebirth begins to be felt, we see Diana fed up with the inconsistencies of her life, and she is determined to find out who or what has radically changed the DC Universe.

In Wonder Woman Rebirth #1 we find an emotionally- shattered Amazon trying to make sense of what has transpired in her life. She questions her title as Wonder Woman, and tries to shake the feeling that her life has been a lie. But she is still not convinced all in her life contains veracity. She sees flashes of two childhoods, two introductions to Man's World, and discovers an Olympus that is not what it seems. A force is toying with Diana's life, and she is not happy. What happens when Wonder Woman uses her own Lasso of Truth on herself? We find out in this powerful read.

Wonder Woman Rebirth #1 is a wonderful collaborated effort of New York Times bestselling author, Greg Rucka, and artists Matthew Clark and Liam Sharp. Rucka's return to Wonder Woman shakes things up for not only Diana, but for her readers, as well. The narrative is introspective, and mirrors what many readers have been confused about: why did the New 52 change the DC Universe so drastically

As we learned in DC Universe Rebirth, a powerful character from another DC Comics series has been integrated into the DC Universe. He has been manipulating the lives of everyone, stealing ten years from them. Diana's lasso has helped her see this, and now it is time to start the battle to win back reality. She casts aside her new 52 garb, and debuts in this issue a more film-accurate costume, as worn by Gal Gadot.

Joining Rucka, Clark, and Sharp are the artistic talents of Jeremy Colwell and Laura Martin. Each artist does a magnificent job of adding body and emotion to Greg Rucka's words. It is a fast-paced read with heaps of surprises. It continues to deliver Geoff Johns' promise of bringing readers back to the characters we knew and loved. I was very pleased with this issue, and highly recommend it to any Wonder Woman fan.

If DC Comics keeps delivering solid stories like this, we can bet that they will be on top in sales and popularity. Wonder Woman deflects the New 52 DC bullet deftly, and I pity whomever crosses her.

  A great read!
