Feel Good Books: The Princess Diarist by Carrie Fisher

Image
Hello, Fellow Book Worms and Book Dragons!   I am often asked what book left me smiling ear to ear and delivered all the feels. Look no further than Carrie Fisher for that.     Tenacity. Bravery. Strength.     This is how I describe Carrie Fisher to people as I explain to them the significance that she has played in my life. As someone who has dealt with depression for many years, it had always been refreshing to see someone as famous as Carrie Fisher tell her tale of depression and substance abuse as candidly as she had. She proved to those diminished by their inner demons that they could also emerge triumphantly. With her bestselling memoirs Wishful Drinking and Shokaholic , Fisher laid bare her pain, frustration, and hopes to her readers. She even took Wishful Drinking on the road as a one-woman show from 2006 to 2010. This became a hilarious HBO special that was viewed by millions. Every joke. Every word. Every emotion that Carrie...

Carrie Fisher: My Reviews

Image
Hello, Fellow Book Worms and Book Dragons!   For many years before her untimely death, Carrie Fisher was a beacon of hope and understanding for those in the world struggling with addiction and depression. Upon her passing (and that of her mother, Debbie Reynolds), the world realized with an aching heart just what they had lost.    Carrie Fisher was straight-forward about her struggles. She told her stories to give the world a chance to relax and realize that they were not alone. Three years after she became one with the Force, we will see her final performance in Star Wars Episode IX: the Rise of Skywalker. With painstaking reconstruction of footage from her Star Wars film history, we will see her once again on the big screen.      Carrie was also an accomplished Hollywood writer and author. Her work was featured on the Academy Awards, as well as in books such as Postcards from the Edge. But her one-woman show, Wishful Drinking bro...

Book Review: The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid

Hello, Fellow Book Worms and Book Dragons!   The Hollywood Biography. A place where the rich and famous settle down near the end of their career and tell all to the public. I have read memoirs and biographies from legends such as Carol Burnett and Carrie Fisher in the past couple of years and I have to say I loved the books immensely. To settle down and read about a celebrity's life and immerse myself into their lifestyle is eye-opening and often some stories resonate with me. Lately I have started reading faux biographies and they have both come from the same author. With Daisy Jones & the Six , author Taylor Jenkins Read told the fictional story of a rock band in the 1970s. I loved it so much that I wanted to read more of her work.     The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo is written by Taylor Jenkins Reid. It is published by Atria Books, an imprint of Simon & Schuster. In this star-studded biography we meet Evelyn Hugo, star of the silver screen in ...

Book Review: Tricky Twenty-Two by Janet Evanovich

Image
Hello, Fellow Book Worms and Book Dragons!   To say that Stephanie Plum has been put through hell on a regular basis by Janet Evanovich would be the understatement of the decade. Car bombings, poisonings, apartment destruction, being stalked by killers, and even tumbling down the stairs attached to criminal is only a handful of examples. Just when you think that the Trenton, New Jersey bounty hunter has seen it all, Evanovich cracks a smile and shows us she is not done with her popular character just yet.       Tricky Twenty- Two is written by Janet Evanovich and is the twenty-sixth book in her popular series. It is published by Penguin Random House under their Bantam Books imprint. In it we see that Stephanie Plums is still surviving her day-to-day bounty-hunting gig at her cousin, Vinny's, bail bonds office. And to join her in her misery are Lula and Connie. Lula is a former prostitute befriended by Stephanie whom she had managed to get a j...
