Xepherus Reads

Hello, Fellow Book Worms and Book Dragons!     I look back on the books that I have read and realize I have three excellent books that I would recommend to everyone. Though my year was mainly in research books, I did manage to get a few novels in.   Here are my Top 3 favorite books read in 2021 (not all books were released in 2021) Any reviews will be linked in the names: 3)  Before She Disappeared by Lisa Gardner-  take a recovering alcoholic with a penchant for finding missing people and you have the beginnings of a fantastic series. Gardner returns with a deviation from her D.D. Warren series to introduce Frankie Elkin. Elkin is doing her part to help find missing people as she travels with her meager possessions city to city. I found the mystery excellent and the protagonist to be genuine and likable. She had her faults and always admitted to them. The story of the missing girl was heart-breaking. Hillary Huber narrated the audiobook with an intensity...

Hello, Fellow Book Worms and Book Dragons!    As I race to the end of this trying year, I look back on the books that I have read. Even though my reading count was not to my liking, nonetheless I managed to read some books that surprised me.   Here are my Top 5 favorite books read in 2020 (not all books were released in 2020): 5) The Survivor's Club by Lisa Gardner - a murdered rapist, a sloppy hit-man, and a group of survivors brings this Lisa Gardner book into my Top 5. The introduction of Detective Roan Griffin into the Gardnerverse is a dynamic and pulse-pounding ride that had me quickly turning the pages to get to the end. One of her best novels, Lisa Gardner has once again solidified herself in my list of top authors. 4) Cross Her Heart by Melinda Leigh - a new author that I tried in 2020 was Melinda Leigh. Her first book in the Bree Taggert series was an emotional entry into the crime thriller genre. Excellent characters that I loved to read fueled this b...

Hello Book Worms and Book Dragons!    First off I am now a member of the Book Depository Affiliates Program. You may now use my link below to peruse their awesome warehouse of books.   I have also been accepted as a reviewer at NetGalley, and have received my first ARCs.  I look forward to being a part of the family of reviewers there.   The month of May has been a fun reading month so far.  I found myself picking up a few unexpected reads to add to my to be read pile. Audible.com had an awesome two for one credit sale where I picked up a few expensive audio books for seven dollars each. Out of this audio book haul I began reading Journey to the Center of the Earth by Jules Verne. It is very entertaining, and the edition I am reading is an updated edition read by Tim Curry. It also features footnotes and some scientific information that makes the book easier to follow. I am half way through this story.    I have...

Hello, Fellow Book Worms and Book Dragons!   Top 5 Wednesday is a Goodreads Book Club that meets weekly to answer questions presented. It is a fun group with an active following, and it is never boring. Our moderators are BookTubers, Lainey (GingerReadsLainey) and Samantha (ThoughtsOnTomes). Samantha just recently took over the group as head moderator. Welcome Samantha!   This week's question asks: What are your Top 5 Rainy Day Reads? Graphic Novels- these volumes either present new stories or collect single-issue comics to form one cohesive story. I like these on rainy days for the artwork, colors, and visual narrative. Series Books- I like to pick up a book in a series that I have already read from. They contain familiar characters that are easy to visit again. This makes the reads faster, and the rainy day forgotten. Genre Reads- for this I usually choose Star Wars novels accompanied by their audio books. It is an immersive experience that utilizes some of ...
