Happy Anniversary Musings

Hello, Fellow Book Worms and Book Dragons!   The thing about blogging is that it should be a fun time for the individual (or individuals if you wish to share your spotlight).  It should come to the writer naturally: you have an opinion or wish to tell people about something that you have tried or done. Blogs come in many different formats. I chose the written word, because I tend to have little time to make videos. As the years began to go forward my free time tended to be shortened due to work and life in general.    My second anniversary blogging will arrive on November 24 of this year. In 2016 (November and December) I blogged 18 times, testing the waters and my writing abilities. In 2016 I was working less hours and I began to devote my time to online business ventures, and I had a great deal of time to read and review what I had read. My blog posts swelled to 145 for that year. But once again my career in medicine has shifted, and I was ...

Comic Book Digital Codes: Are They Worth It?

Image
Hello, Fellow Book Worms and Book Dragons !   Wednesday, new comics day. No other day in the life of a comic book fan is more important (other than Comic Con) than staking out your local comic shop and getting the newest releases. I have been a patron of comic book shops for over twenty five years, and I admit that I never grow tired of snatching up the latest releases. But lately there has been a debate within the comic book industry about digital codes.    Recently Marvel Comics received a lot of bad publicity when they changed what digital content wa s available with the code included with their comics. Up until the beginning of April 2017, you could download the digital version of the print book you had purchased to your Comixology account. But Marvel decided to change th e digital content to three random books. Yes three books are better than one, but they were books chosen by Marvel. This left digital collectors up-in-arms over the decision because th...

Hello, Fellow Book Worms and Book Dragons ,   The eff ects of the return of t he Pre-Flashpoint Superman w ere just the beginning. Elsewhere in t he New 52 Universe, the tales of one woman's journey away from the super hero game began kicking and screaming. And the broken memories of the former Teen Titans were triggered when a deadly fo e from the past returned. Highlighted areas denote my review links. Black Canary: Songs for Broken Gods and Superwomen       You don't become a mem ber of Barabara Gordon's super-group for nothin g. Former Bird of Prey Dinah Lance had gone through quite a lot in a short perio d of time. It all culminated to a fight with Batgirl, and the loss of all of her crime fighting equipment in a major fire. Confronting Gordon and helping her with removing a danger ous AI from the world (Batgirl #35-40), Dinah part ed ways amicably from her former team mate. In a daring twelve issue series of her own by writer, Bren...

Consolidating My Universe

Image
Hello, Fellow Book Worms and Book Dragons!   The duties of having three blogs and a full time job can sometimes be a bit daunting. As a way of still connecting with my readers I have decided to continue my adventures in the world of reading and pop culture within this blog. Since everything that I love about pop culture emanated from reading the source material they are based on, it is only fitting to bundle them up here.        I have also decided that many of my popular posts  from my other blogs should live on here. As an avid comic book reader, toy collector, and toy customizer I have many subjects that I would love to share with all of you. I will be featuring comic book segments and reviews here beginning with my reviews of the new DC Universe Rebirth initiative currently running in their titles. I am happy for this newest chapter in Xepherus Reads, and I welcome you to share in my love for all things pop culture.    ...

Comic Book Review: Green Arrow Rebirth #1 by Benjamin Percy and Otto Schmidt

Hello, Fellow Book Worms and Book Dragons!    New comic book Wednesdays have been a tradition for millions of comics fans for decades. It is exciting to travel into your local comic shop, and see all the new issues ready to be bought and read. This feeling has been heightened for me ever since I read DC Universe Rebirth #1. I have always been a DC fan, but lately my trips to the comic shop were rarely to buy DC issues. The New 52 did not speak to me like the amazing adventure stories of my past. But after reading Rebirth, I have begun to have a renewed interest in DC Comics. Why? Because their new commitment to their fans has thus far produced amazing books.  And it is great to see the DC Bullet back on top of their books.   My next reading experience while going through my two-week stack of titles was Green Arrow Rebirth #1. I was particularly excited, because it reunites Green Arrow and Black Canary. I have enjoyed the twelve issue run of Canary's sol...
