2023 Halloween Book Tag

Image
Hello, Fellow Book Worms and Book Dragons,     Halloween is my favorite holiday of the year. I love to make popcorn balls, drink cider, and carve pumpkins. And I love reading scary books and watching horror films.    When I read during the spooky season, I love to recommend scary and magical reads. The Halloween Book Tag    Carving Pumpkins  (what book would you carve up and light on fire?) Fifty Shades of Grey by E.L. James. I found this book to be rather boring and it never caught my attention. The narrative reads like fan fiction (of which it was made from), and the characters say some pretty silly dialogue. Trick or Trea t (What character is a trick and what character is a treat?) I chose my two from teh same book-  Trick : Reverend Lowery from  Walk the Earth a Stranger  by Rae Carson: this seemingly quiet and proper preacher definitely turned into a trick when he asked 16-year-old Lee Westfall to marry him after his wife died. He definitely has some surprises under that clerica

New York Comic Con: Convention Do's

Image
Hello, Fellow Book Worms and Book Dragons,    Next week I will be joining thousands of readers as I enter the den of Geekoid madness that is New York Comic Con.    What does this have to do with books, you ask. Everything!     Comic books were how I started reading. Each adventure, panel, and word gave me the momentum I needed to venture into literary bliss. And when I go to any convention, I have a list of do's that I swear by. To help you out with your Comic-Con journey, here are my golden rules for surviving a convention. NYCC fun Photo (c) Xepherus Studios Backpack essentials: Sharpies (in case you need something signed and the signer's pen runs out of ink) Post-It Notes (to show the person signing your item what to write and where to put their signature) Deodorant (please, bring deodorant. Conventions are sweaty and crowded events that need freshening up every now and then) Water Bottle (hydrate! A convention can be taxing on your body. Make sure you drink plenty of flui

The Most Disturbing Book: Say Goodbye by Lisa Gardner

Image
Hello, Fellow Book Worms and Book Dragons,   Spooky Season is here!      Let's go back in time and go over some of the most disturbing thrillers I have read. First up:     The single most terrifying villain in any crime novel I have read lives in Say Goodbye. FBI Agent Kimberly Quincy is on the trail of an evil man who believes himself to be more than human. Killing his victims slowly, cacoooning their bodies, and hanging them from trees, Mr. Dinhcara hunts and destroys. A product of horrific child abuse at a young age, Dinhcara does not know mercy. His brand of justice is deadly and swift. Excellent character development and strong family bonds drove this exciting tale forward to a shattering (and somewhat supernatural) ending.    Trigger Warnings: child abuse, sexual abuse, graphic violence, spiders, and violence toward a pregnant Agent Quincy.    If you like terrifying villains and lots of gore with some paranormal, this book is for your Halloween reading.   Let me know in the

Spooky Book Tag 2023- My Picks

Image
Hello, Fellow Book Worms and Book Dragons,    Now it's my turn to share my choices for this year's Spooky Book Tag. I have linked the books mentioned to my full reviews of each. What are you waiting for if you still need to take the challenge? Have fun .   Let's see what the spooky season has in store... 1) Post Mortem: A book that started warm, but soon became cold- Forget Her Name by Jane Holland  started off strong and gave me a few re-herrings and a great plot twist. But ultimately the ending was muddled by a last chapter that went from thriller to Hallmark love story. 2) Smashed Pumpkins: A book that smashed your expectations- NOS4A2 by Joe Hill was a book that started off strong and became stronger with each chapter. This book is one that flies by and is filled with unexpected and creepy turns. 3) Falling Leaves: The best series that delivers fresh entries- The Irish Village series by Carlene O'Connor . This group of cozy mysteries is a delightful way to spend
