Sick Time and Book Reading: What Books Make You Happy When You Are Sick?

Image
Hello, Fellow Book Worms and Book Dragons,   Sometime being an adult can be tough. You have responsibilities, a career, and lots of plans that can be ruined if you are sick.   Well, the time has come for me to slow down a bit to deal with being sick. This has it's disadvantages, but I like to see the silver lining. I can read as many books as I want while I am getting over being sick. Plus I can also catch up on my blogging and reviews.   With that being said, I am off to nest under the covers with hot tea and a lot of books. I think comics, children's books, and mysteries will help me feel better. I can also chip away at my book challenges.   Please let me know in the comments below what do you read to feel better when you are sick.  Because there is always time to read,   Xepherus3  At Twitter at: https://twitter.com/XepherusStudios At Facebook at: https://www.facebook.com/XepherusStudios At Goodreads at: https://www.goodrea...

Tuesday Talks- Do You Shop for Specific Books, or Are You a Browser?

Hello, Fellow Book Worms and Book Dragons!   Tuesday Talks is a Goodreads Group serving the book community that is moderated by YouTubers, Janie Johnson and her book pal, Janelle. Check it out!    This week's Tuesday Talks question is: Do You Shop for Specific Books, or Are You a Browser?   When I venture out to look for books I usually shop both ways.  When I am at a thrift shop or book fair I am looking for specific books to either complete a series or to find the more harder to find or out of print books. Just recently I began re-reading my childhood favorites. Many of them are hard to find. That is where the thrift shop and book fairs come in handy. With books either free or ranging from fifty cents to two dollars, it is a very inexpensive way to get the books that you need to complete a series of favorites. My box full of Janet Evanovich books I found at book fairs last year were a wonderful investment. I have read almost...

Book Review: Explosive Eighteen By Janet Evanovich

Hello, Fellow Book Worms and Book Dragons,   Debuting in 1994, One For the Money introduced readers to failed-retail-employee-turned-bounty-hunter, Stephanie Plum. This constantly beat down woman was at the end of a bad retail job and failed marriage, leaving her penniless with only her hamster, Rex, to keep her company. In book one she began to work for her cousin, Vinny, in his Trenton, New Jersey bail bonds agency. Along with secretary, Connie and former hooker, Lula, Stephanie was introduced to some of area's criminals, almost getting herself killed. But Stephanie had a couple of heroes to help her out: Detective Joe Morelli, a past lover and Ranger, a mysterious bounty hunter with the nasty habit of turning Stephanie on. This well-written and often hilarious book was a bestseller. Later many books would follow continuing Stephanie's adventures and her constant internal struggle of whether to pick Morelli or Ranger.      Seventeen books later Stepha...

Top 5 Wednesday- Books That You Did Not Finish

Image
Hello, Fellow Book Worms and Book Dragons! I am happy to be answering my second question from the Goodreads group Top 5 Wednesday. It is a group created by Lainey from You Tube's GingerReadsLainey . Every Wednesday we answer a question and share our answers to the book community.    This week's question asks: What books have you DNF' d (Did Not Finish)?  Scarlett by Alexandra Ripley- this sequel to Margaret Mitchell's Gone With the Wind was released in 199 2. I traveled to my local Walden books (remember them ?) , and shelled ou t the twenty-plus dollars to re ead this soon to be "new classic". I started it, did not like it, and ended up donated it to a library book fair three years later. Will I ever read this book? Probably not.   To Kill a Mockin bird by Harper Lee- this was given to me in the tenth grade as a reading assignment. I watched the movie, and g ot a "D" for my efforts (the writing was good, but the teacher found out I ...

Nostalgia Base: Reading and Being a Kid

Image
Hello, Fellow Book Worms and Book Dragons,   I have asked myself this question many times, answering it with fond memories.  What impact did books have on me as a kid?   I began to read when I was very young. It started with comic books that my parents purchased for me every week. I would pour over the pictures and try to decipher the word balloons on my own. I was purchased Little Golden Books, books based on comic book characters, and the occasional workbook. My mother was an avid reader that loaded our home with bookcases filled with books. As I began to read more, I was given my own shelf and that made me very happy.  One of my favorite book covers as a kid   It was not until the early 1980s that I discovered Beverly Cleary, Lois Lowry, John Bellairs, and Judy Blume. These Yearling and Scholastic books were purchased in bulk from Waldenbooks (remember that place?) by my mother, as I entered into solo reading. My kid brain...

Tuesday Talks- Do You Continue a Series That You Do Not Enjoy?

Image
Hello, Fellow Book Worms and Book Dragons!   Tuesday Talks is a Goodreads Group serving the book community that is moderated by YouTubers, Janie Johnson and her book pal, Janelle. Check it out!    This week's Tuesday Talks question is:   If you do not enjoy the first book in a series do you still continue reading the series?   The answer to this question is yes and no. I have started many series that have bored me, but had likeable characters. With this type of book I have been patient. What I will do is wait for a month or so, and then I pick the series up again. Usually I do not have issues with continuing on. I also find that audiobooks help a great deal when continuing a series that I have issues with. The change in presentation is sometimes what I need to make me want to continue.  I especially love it when an audiobook has a voice actor that reads in character, and grasps the narrative in a way I could not have thought.   S...

Top 5 Wednesday- Fictional Items You Want

Image
Hello, Fellow Book Worms! This is the last question for the month of February from the Goodreads group Top 5 Wednesday. For those of you who do not know, it is a group created by Lainey from You Tube's GingerReadsLainey . Every Wednesday we answer a question, and share our answers to the book community.     This week's question is one we have all thought of at one time or another: What Fictional Items Would You Want to Use or Own? I delved into comic books for this one.   Legion Flight Ring: Debuting in DC Comics' Adventure Comics #329, this article of jewelry belongs to all Legion of Super-Heroes members of the future. With it one may fly in any atmosphere. Made from indestructible Valorium metal, it is also been worn by Superboy and Booster Gold. I would never be late getting places by flying.   Tantu Totem : Debuting in DC Comics' Action Comics #521, Vixen appeared in the Dc Universe along with her magical necklace: the Tantu Totem. With it she ...
