Thriller Review- Tell Me What You Did by Carter Wilson

Tell Me What You Did is written by Carter Wilson. It is published by Poison Pen Press, an imprint of Sourcebooks Publishing.

When Poe Wheeler was a teenager she witnessed the savage murder of her mother. Threatened by the killer, Poe was rendered mute. But after years of living in terror that he would return, she moved to New York City. It was in the Big Apple she believed he lived. Fueled by revenge, she ended his life. And never looked back.

Now a popular podcaster, she invites people to call in and confess their sins. With each caller, she fears a horrific crime will be revealed. One night a man calls in and begins to slowly tell his story. But his crime is not what she expects. He claims to be the man who murdered her mother.

Carter Wilson delivered a tense and chilling journey into suspense. Poe's inner dialogue was a compelling look into her psyche. An often broken and sad person, we are invited into her thoughts. This in return makes her anxiety the reader's anxiety. Ian Hindley is a vicious and creepy villain. Every time he appears there is a dread the permeates the entire story. The book sails along at a fast pace leading to Poe and Ian's final Halloween night showdown.

I read Tell Me What You Did in part with the narration of Allyson Ryan (Poe) and Patrick Zeller (Ian). Their interactions during the Halloween podcast was thrilling to listen to. Each played their roles to the fullest. A sense of urgency was heightened by their performances.

This novel also included QR codes to scan that included videos of actress Rebekah Kennedy acting out scenes from the novel. And the final QR code was an acknowledgments video from Wilson. I thought this inclusion was a great interactive way to enjoy the story.

Five stars and several blood pressure checks later, I am one satisfied reader. This was made creepier for me since the book visits one New Hampshire city I used to live in. Wilson also included his protagonist, Alice, from a previous novel, Mister Tender's Girl. Of course I have to read that, as well. If you want a fast-paced thriller to ride into spooky season with. This one is for you.
