Xepherus Reads Top 3 Books Read in 2021

Hello, Fellow Book Worms and Book Dragons!

I look back on the books that I have read and realize I have three excellent books that I would recommend to everyone. Though my year was mainly in research books, I did manage to get a few novels in.

Here are my Top 3 favorite books read in 2021 (not all books were released in 2021) Any reviews will be linked in the names:

3) Before She Disappeared by Lisa Gardner- take a recovering alcoholic with a penchant for finding missing people and you have the beginnings of a fantastic series. Gardner returns with a deviation from her D.D. Warren series to introduce Frankie Elkin. Elkin is doing her part to help find missing people as she travels with her meager possessions city to city. I found the mystery excellent and the protagonist to be genuine and likable. She had her faults and always admitted to them. The story of the missing girl was heart-breaking. Hillary Huber narrated the audiobook with an intensity that enhanced this excellent story. I look forward to the sequel coming January 2022, One Step Too Far.

2) In Her Tracks by Robert Dugoni- a missing girl and the disappearance of a jogger. Detective Tracy Crosswhite has returned from a leave of absence and has found her boss has given away her job. Her new position: one being vacated in cold cases. Working behind her boss's back with her old team, she manages to bring two missing person cases to a resolution. But the results are not what she could have dreamed of. Robert Dugoni's excellent series has yet to lose steam. Tracy grows better with each book and the stakes continue to be high. Emily Sutton Smith does an excellent job returning to narrate the series. An excellent read for any crime enthusiast.

1) All That Remains by Sue Black-  in her own words, Forensic Anthropologist, Sue Black, delves deep into her history searching the past for answers. Doing research for my novel, I came upon her work and lectures. She is a great storyteller and her life in her field was fascinating. The audiobook, read by Angela Dawe, was entertaining and the narrator seemed to enjoy reading the book as much as Black did writing it. This is a must-read for students and writers alike.

I hope that you all had a great reading year and can look back on some of your favorite books. Here is to a great 2021 reading year!
