2018 Spooky Book Tag

Hello, Fellow Book Worms and Book Dragons!

It is that time of year again, Spooky Book Tag! This is a fun way to interact with the book community to see what everyone is reading. Have fun and feel free to tag someone. Reviews for the books mentioned are highlighted with their link.

1. Corn Maze (what book had you confused and lost from the very beginning?) Forget Her Name by Jane Holland. The story seemed all over the map and fractured several times. This thriller ended with an epilogue that did not seem to fit with the overall story. From mystery to thriller to weird love story, this book had me lost a lot.

2. Haunted House (what book has the creepiest setting?) The Death of Mrs.Westaway by Ruth Ware had a very creepy setting in Trepassen House. The old family estate of the Westaways was filled with shadows and dangers that made for one spooky read.

 3. Ghost Boyfriend or Girlfriend (who is your eternal book soulmate?) Vince Leone from Tami Hoag's Oak Knoll trilogy. Retired FBI man Leone is one smooth operator. Mature and devilishly sexy with years of experience, Vince is charming. One look is all it takes.

 4. Caramel Apple Suckers (best dang Halloween book ever.) Recently I enjoyed Disturbed by Jennifer Jaynes, which is set during Halloween. It was super creepy and had a reveal that is shocking.

 5. “Vampires in Everything” (what is your least favorite Halloween trope?) I honestly cannot think of a Halloween trope that I do not like.

 6. “Pumpkin in Everything” (your favorite Halloween trope?) My favorite trope is probably all of them: serial killers, haunted mansions, ghosts... I love them all.

 7. Evil Incarnate (The most evil villain) Mr. Dinchara from Lisa Gardner's novel Say Goodbye. This sadistic killer was born from fear and anguish. Kidnapped at age nine by a horrific child molester, Dinchara grew up learning the worst in people was his normal. When he was older and had enough he killed his captor. His love for spiders led him to tattoo glowing spider eyes on his head. And his victims were cocooned and hung from trees. FBI Agent Kimberly Quincy almost lost her life challenging this horrific villain.

 8. Ouji Board (a book that messes with things that you don’t want to be involved in!) Find Her by Lisa Gardner introduced us to Flora Dane, a woman that had been kidnapped by a sadistic killer for over a year. Living most of her days in a coffin where she was seldom let out, she later killed her captor during an FBI raid. Later on, she became a dangerous vigilante that stopped those who prey on the weak.

 9. Full Moon (What character do you turn into on the full moon?) Wonder Woman, of course. Powerful, compassionate, and an ambassador of peace, Diana would be amazing to turn into. But I may get dizzy with all that spinning.

 10. All Hallows Eve (the other world and this world have meshed for one night; what book world would you love to be swept up in?) The Wizarding World of Harry Potter would be amazing. I would love to spend time with the Weasleys at their crooked house. And to visit Dumbledore's office would be awesome.

 11. Voodoo Doll (what author would you love to take control of and make them write you anything you want?) That would be Lisa Gardner. However, with her penchant for bloody crime thrillers, I would be excited and scared at the same time to see the final book.

 12. Black Cat (what red flags do you look for when first starting out a book?) When I begin a novel I want a tale that will grab me early on and hold my interest. One book that definitely did that was Final Girls and The Last Time I Lied both by Riley Sager. Sager knows how to catch a reader's attention and hold on to it.

 13. Witches Brew (A book that had a lot of different components thrown in but the result was magical.) The Witches Boy by Kelly Barnhill. This magical tale of two children on the run is filled with magic and fantasy. Possessing a magic left to him by his mother, young Ned and his friend, Aine, race against time to save the kingdom from those who wish to do it harm. This is one amazing tale!
