Nostalgia Base- Galaxy Files: Rey (Possible Spoilers)

Hello, Fellow Book Worms and Book Dragons,

Since December 2015, the enigmatic character of Rey has captivated audiences of all ages. This strong-willed scavenger from the desert planet Jakku surprised Star Wars fans (and the First Order) with her Force-wielding abilities. And with her academy-level knowledge of starships and vehicles, she drove the Millenium Falcon expertly. She also built her own speeder to transport salvage to Niima Outpost to exchange for rations. She speaks fluent droid and is fairly skilled at hand-to-hand combat with her staff. Fans worldwide have offered their assessment of the origins of the franchise's latest dynamic lead. Then finally, with the Rise of Skywalker, Rey's full story was told, which I will cover here. Spoilers for Episode IX ahead.

Using the current canon books and various media, it is time for me to share with you what I have discovered about the galaxy's most mysterious Force wielder. Regardless of whether you may agree or not, this analysis is also meant to be a fun way to speculate and celebrate one of Star Wars' most heroic characters. I will revise this analysis as I read more canon material.  What few speculations I may have are denoted.

Affiliation: The Resistance, New Jedi Order

Birthplace: No official birthplace has been introduced, but Coruscant is suspected

Known Residences: Jakku

Parents: Unnamed. Brought into light by Kylo Ren after he and Rey were engaged in telepathic conversations, it appeared that Rey's parents were junk traders who sold her off at a young age to Unkar Plutt. This turned out to be only a truth that she knew as a child. Her parents were murdered by a loyalist of Emperor Palpatine. They hid their daughter on Jakku when Palpatine ordered the child's death. Rey's father was Palpatine's son. And in a vision the Sith Lord saw that his granddaughter would become a force that may rival his own power.

The Force: One with the Cosmic aspect of the Force, Rey is a powerful Force wielder with knowledge gained from telepathic links with Kylo Ren and training with Jedi Master Luke Skywalker. Rey can manipulate minds, levitate objects, gain knowledge of an object’s history through psychometry, and shift objects through the Force. She is one part of a Dyad in the Force, with Ben Solo being the other half. This is rare and has not been seen in many centuries.

Once possessing the lightsaber of Anakin Skywalker, Rey became adept in her use of the weapon. But it was destroyed during a battle with Kylo Ren aboard Supreme Leader Snoke’s vessel, the Supremacy. Later, with the help of Leia Organa, she repaired the saber and healed its Kyber crystal. She also can heal others using Force energy, and art displayed by Jedi in the past.

Rey possesses the ancient texts of the Jedi Order obtained from the sacred Uneti tree on the island of Ahch-To. With the help of C-3Po, Rey began to read the volumes of Jedi teachings aboard the Millennium Falcon once the Resistance had escaped the Battle of Crait. After nearly a year the Resistance settled on the secluded planet of Ajan Kloss, were General Organa had initially trained to be a Jedi with her brother, Luke Skywalker. Leia took up the mantle of Master and trained Rey in the ways of the Force. Leia, Luke, and Han knew of her connection to the Emperor. But that only made Leia wish to train the girl more. She felt that if she helped Rey focus herself on the light side of the Force, the girl would be a strong addition to the Jedi lineage.

Skills: While living on Jakku, Rey was a scavenger by trade, gaining knowledge of the Galactic Civil War through records and wreckage from the Battle of Jakku. She is also knowledgeable about vehicles and starships, being able to fly the legendary Millennium Falcon. Her flight skills can be attributed in part to her finding a Rebellion flight simulator program in an old Zephra-series hauler in the ship graveyards. With this, she would train in her spare time, which could be days if one of Jakku's X'us'R'iia storms raged outside her home inside a felled AT-AT Walker. She is a skilled linguist, having met many species at Niima Outpost in her years on Jakku. She is adept in hand-to-hand combat. And can shoot a blaster quite well.

Weapons: Blaster, Lightsaber, and a staff she salvaged from the Jakku ship graveyard. She later used he staff to fashion a new lightsaber after burying Leia and Luke's lightsabers on the grounds of the Lars homestead on Tatooine.
