Book Review: Twisted Twenty-Six by Janet Evanovich

Hello, Fellow Book Worms and Book Dragons!

For many years the woman named Stephanie Plum has been shot at, had her apartment blown up, threatened repeatedly, shot at, car bombed, stuck in a romantic triangle, shot at, and let's not forget... shot at. It would appear that Janet Evanovich hates her heroine, but I believe that she loves her fans more. Because this latest installment in the much-loved series is the best one by far!

Twisted Twenty-Six is written by Janet Evanovich, and is the thirtieth book in the Stephanie Plum series. It is published by G.P. Putnam and Sons, an imprint of Penguin Randon House. Taking place shortly after Look Alive Twenty-Five, we are attending the funeral of Grandma Mazur's latest husband, Jimmy Rosolli. Dropping dead on his honeymoon, Jimmy apparently left behind something...keys. But what do the keys open? Where did he stash them? Grandma does her best to evade Jimmy's three sisters and their poison cookies. But can she escape the local mobsters that are looking to get the whereabouts of the keys from her?

Stephanie does her best to protect Grandma Mazur. She even has her faithful bestie, Lula, with her. Plus the other pieces of her love triangle puzzle, Morelli and Ranger have their eyes on Grandma. In the meantime, Stephanie has to pay the bills. Taking several skips from her cousin's bail bonds office, she sets out with Lula to apprehend the criminals. What they discover is a crafty shoplifter, a man high on mushrooms that has an imaginary dragon with him, and a skip with anger issues that assaulted a drive-thru employee. And she still has mobsters after her grandmother. All in a day's work for the fearless (or is it fearful) Stephanie Plum.

Twisted Twenty-Six was a hysterically funny book with a great blend of action and mystery. Stephanie's crazy family is center stage in this one. Grandma Mazur is at her cooky best. And Mrs. Plum shows a couple of mobsters that an iron is not just for clothes anymore. Lula was more superstitious and anxiety-ridden, which upped the comedy. The side characters, especially Jimmy Rosolli's sisters, were some of the best that have been written for the series. Evanovich showed me that Ms. Plum has not lost her appeal. After so many years I can still read one of the books in the series and still be crying from laughing so hard. It was a fun time that flew by and ended with a tense finale that was very satisfying.

Lorelei King returns to read the audiobook for Twisted Twenty-Six. This delightful voice actress has read many of Stephanie Plum's adventures and I cannot get enough of her amazing ability to present a story. Her use of voices can be hilarious. And her interactions with fans makes her even more likable. I love anything read by King.

Twisted Twenty-Six had me laughing and page-turning for two days. This five-star read proved to me that Janet Evanovich's Plum is nowhere near being stale. She is better than ever with this one!
