Top 5 Wednesday: Independent Women in Books

Hello, Fellow Book Worms and Book Dragons!

Top 5 Wednesday is a Goodreads Book Club that meets weekly to answer questions presented.  Our moderators are YouTubers, Lainey (GingerReadsLainey) and Samantha (ThoughtsOnTomes). I enjoy how every week this group brings the book community together. Great fun!

This week's question asks: What are your Top 5 Independent Women in Books?

  1. Flora Dane (D.D. Warren detective series by Lisa Gardner)- Held captive for over a year by a psychotic murderer, Flora Dane emerged from her ordeal with a new purpose. Stalking the streets of Boston, Dane becomes a dangerous vigilante. Putting stalkers and murders out of commission. But can she work with the Boston PD in order to lawfully bring in these criminals? Does she want to? Find Her and Look for Me began her story. Never Tell continues this Lisa Gardner powerhouse character on February 19, 2019.
  2. Jane Hawk (Jane Hawk series by Dean Koontz)- Living the Silent Corner of the world, away from Cyber Space, this renegade FBI agent bides her time. After witnessing the suicide of her husband and investigating the national suicide rate's increase, Jane Hawk is hypervigilant. A conspiracy to control the people of the world is underway by a shadow organization. Their first mistake was killing her husband. Their second mistake was threatening her five year old son. Vengeance is coming and her name is Hawk.
  3. Dana Nolan (9th Girl and Cold Cold Heart by Tami Hoag)- Kidnapped by notorious serial killer, Doc Holiday, Dana Nolan's life as a perky news anchor was destroyed in a matter of days. Disfigured, suffering a brain injury, and plagued by nightmares, Dana killed her captor, ending his reign of terror. But her real struggle began when she returned home to face her family and get her life back on track. But the disappearance of her best friend decades before becomes a new obsession that once again catches her in the trap of a killer. An amazing character that proves that the human spirit is alive and well.
  4. Lucky Santangelo (Santangelo series by Jackie Collins)- Her legacy began in the novel Chances and continued for ten more works by Collins. This brazen, black-haired beauty is nobody's fool. Daughter of mobster, Gino Santangelo, she has had to battle all her life to get to where she is. After her mother and brother were murdered by a rival family, Lucky set out for revenge. Taking a page from her father's book, Lucky took down Enzio Bonatti for their deaths. She has built an empire that was challenged by many, but in the end nobody f***s with a Santangelo.
  5. Sergeant Detective D.D. Warren (D.D. Warren detective series by Lisa Gardner)- This hard-nosed detective rarely sleeps and struggles at times to spend time with her husband and son. But D.D. Warren was never one to say never. An integral part of the Boston PD, Warren and her team of investigators tackle some of the country's worst criminals. She has apprehended fugitives and serial killers while nursing a broken arm, working on no sleep, and being seven months pregnant. If you see her chasing you, it is best to stop and let her arrest you, because she will track you down to the ends of the Earth.
