Top 5 Wednesday- Books That You Want to See As Television Shows

Hello, Fellow Book Worms and Book Dragons!

Top 5 Wednesday is a Goodreads Book Club that meets weekly to answer questions presented.  Our moderators are YouTubers, Lainey (GingerReadsLainey, Welcome Back to YouTube!) and Samantha (ThoughtsOnTomes). I enjoy how every week this group brings the book community together. Great fun!

This week's question asks: What are your Top 5 Books that you would want to see as a television show?

  1. The Silver Blackthorn Series- This dystopian vision written by Kerry Wilkinson follows sixteen year old Silver Blackthorn and her rise as a leader of a resistance against an evil dictator-king. It is filled with twists and turns, science fiction, and lots of action. I have read two of the three books, and I love this series. It would make an excellent event series that would end as teh books do, with exciting cliffhangers.
  2. Orhan's Inheritance- This amazing first book by author, Aline Ohanesian tells the heartbreaking story of a family's struggles during the Armenian Genocide of the early seventieth century. The book is filled with rich, charismatic characters that leave a lasting imprint on you as not only a reader, but as a human. This was an epic read deserving of a mini series.
  3.  Doctor Sleep- This sequel to Stephen King's the Shining follows an adult Danny Torrance as he struggles through addiction, like his father before him. While working through his recovery he sets down roots in a New Hampshire town. But a girl, named Abra Stone, with the Shining begins to contact him, telling him of a band of psychic vampires, the True Knot, who prey on children with talents like the Shining. As the True Knot work to find Abra, ghosts from the Overlook Hotel return to haunt Danny. And Danny finds out a shocking revelation that he never saw coming. This book would serve well as an event series, or maybe continue on as Under the Dome did. But Lucy Lawless needs to play Rose the Hat. She would do amazing.
  4. The Witch's Boy- This middle grade novel by Kelly Barnhill is a delightful story centering around a magical family that is entrusted with an ancient magick. After the death of his brother, young Ned becomes unable to speak or relate his feelings socially. He is branded a simpleton and treated rather poorly by his town. Across the other side of the kingdom is Aine, a daughter of a thief, who decides to steal the magick guarded by Ned's mother, Sister Witch. When Sister Witch saves the visiting Queen, she is invited to the castle. When she leaves, Aine's father strikes, taking Ned, who has absorbed the magick. A magical journey ensues with evil kings, mythical creatures, and a battle between man, beast, and the Earth itself. The child protagonists in this story are brave, respectful, and would be a great example for today's children.
  5.  Star Wars: Twilight Company- This Battlefront novel by Alexander Freed featured a different perspective on the Galactic Civil War, focusing on the Rebellion's ground troops. It takes place before and during the Empire Strikes Back, even featuring a deadly encounter with Darth Vader. The Twilight Company would be an excellent way to continue the excitement of Rogue One, which also focuses on ground assaults against the Empire. With characters like Hazram Namir, the four-armed Gadren, and the always prepared Brand, the series would do very well with Star Wars fans.

  1. A Star Wars TV Show sounds awesome! I've been meaning to pick up some of the Star Wars novels but haven't got around to it yet.
