Book Review: Curious Minds by Janet Evanovich and Phoef Sutton

Hello, Fellow Book Worms and Book Dragons,

Curious Minds is written by Janet Evanovich and Phoef Sutton. It is published by Bantam Books, an imprint of Penguin Random House Publishing. In this crazy mystery, we are introduced to Riley Moon. She wakes up, works, and sleeps. To her, it is semi-worth it, since her college debt (I mean degree) has landed her a job at the prestigious bank of Blane-Grunwald. Her personality can be as fiery as her red hair. She is the daughter of a Texas law enforcement officer and a great shot. When Riley is asked by her employers to visit reclusive millionaire Emerson Knight as a bank emissary, she assumes that it will be a routine visit. But it is anything but. Riley's former mentor, Gunter, is missing and Emerson wants her along for the ride as he investigates the man's disappearance.

Riley is puzzled by this since this seems out of the ordinary for Gunter's personality to abruptly vanish. Their investigation lands the duo in the middle of a conspiracy, unlike anything they could have imagined. Pursued by dangerous agents and the men Riley works for Knight and Moon must use their curious minds to think fast if they ever want to get out alive.

Curious Minds was a fun read. With a page-turning adventure loaded with wit and charm, the story was extremely entertaining. The pacing was swift, benefiting from both Evanovich and Sutton's collaboration. The novel took me on an adventure that mapped out the United States. And the chemistry between Knight and Moon was very enjoyable to witness. The road toward the twisty finale was a fun one to traverse.

I read Curious Minds in part with the audio narration of Lorelei King. King is one of my favorite audiobook narrators and one of the most versatile voice-over actors working today. I absolutely adore her work. Her delivery of all the characters was fun and gave the narrative depth. I am never disappointed by one of her presentations.

Curious Minds was a four out of five stars read. It was a fun time that went by fast and was a great way to start the month's reading. If you have a reading slump or you want an easy read with mystery and adventure, this book is for you.
