Book Review: Plum Lucky by Janet Evanovich

Hello, Fellow Book Worms and Book Dragons!

What happens when a cantankerous octogenarian finds a bag full of money? Trouble. Trouble. Trouble. That is what happens.

Plum Lucky is by bestselling author, Janet Evanovich, and is published by St. Martins Press. It stars Stephanie Plum, the lovable bail bonds enforcer, and Diesel (from the Lizzie and Diesel series), a man with magical abilities who tracks down magical objects and magical people, known as Unmentionables.

Plum Lucky is set after the events of Lean, Mean Thirteen, and takes us for one crazy ride. Diesel is tracking a man, named Snuggy O'Connor, who is in deep trouble after stealing a bag of money from mobster, Lou Delvina (last seen in Plum Lovin'). Snuggy believes that he is a Leprechaun with powers, and that he can talk telepathically with animals. He has stolen the bag of money to help Doug, a champion race horse that is set for termination due to a bad leg.

But Stephanie's Grandma Mazur finds the bag of money, and all hell breaks loose when Snuggy tries to steal it back from her. Feeling that her luck is changing Grandma Mazur buys an RV, hires little man about town, Randy Briggs, as her bodyguard, and heads to conquer the slots at Daffy's Casino. But hot on her trail are Stephanie, Diesel, and Snuggy. Along for the ride are Connie Rosolli (the bail bond secretary with scary gun skills ), Lula (the casino supermodel), and Mickey (Lou Delvina's right-hand man). There is kidnapping, rocket launchers, explosions, and lots of oxygen tanks and scooters to keep them all busy.

This novel met all my needs as I took a very long bus ride over the Fourth of July weekend. It kept me engaged, had me laughing, and at one point I had not realized that it was time to get off my bus. I read this in part with Lorelei King's narration. A long-time Evanovich narrator, King had each character vividly portrayed, and her use of voices made this reading experience fantastic. I hope King never leaves narrating Stephanie Plum books.

Plum Lucky delivered page after page of fun and adventure. I gave this book four out of five stars.
