Sunday Suspense: Hide by Lisa Gardner
Hello, Fellow Book Worms and Book Dragons,
A mysterious stranger follows a young girl. Her father flees state to state with her for decades to remain one step ahead of their pursuer. And now a young woman, that girl discovers her name is on the news as one of six bodies found in a serial killer's pit of anguish.
As suspects begin to arise, Annabelle and Bobby grow close. But D.D. fears that his new-found relationship mirrors his obsession with a past case. The killer has Annabelle in his sights and she will have to decide whether to stand and fight or once again hide.
Hide was a fun and twisty mystery that had me surprised throughout. Gardner introduced a solid character roster that was well-fleshed out and intriguing. I enjoyed D.D. and Bobby's banter and how they looked out for one another. Annabelle shined rather brightly in this tale. I could read a whole novel just about her and no one else. The villain was creepy and his pit of horrors was described in a way that had me feeling itchy. Gardner has never had any issues making her readers uncomfortable. In this thriller, the "ick factor" is dialed up quite high. And the finale was very exciting with two twists that added even more meat to the story.
I enjoyed Hide in part with the narration of actress, Maggi-Meg Reed. Her delivery was a bit flat in the beginning but, as the story entered the third chapter I noticed Reed gain her footing on presentation. By the end, she had read very strongly and delivered an excellent performance. If you start off not liking her narrating, please give her a chance. She won me over quite fast.
Hide was a fun four-star thriller filled with interesting characters. It carried me away into a tale that made the world around me vanish. If you need a great story with an amazing finale, this is your book.
