2020: The Lost Reviews

Hello, Fellow Book Worms and Book Dragons!

January 2021 has arrived and with it a mystery: Where did some of my reviews go? It's a simple answer, really. I had a bad case of writer's block. Thankfully the writer's block and reading did not happen at the same time.

Since I am writing again, I figured I would do some short reviews to catch up with all of my readers on some of the books that missed a formal reaction. Enjoy!

  1. Eleven on Top by Janet Evanovich- ****/ I don't gag on my coffee, but with the hilarious dialogue in this Stephanie Plum novel, I was surprised I did not have coffee coming out of my nose. Evanovich introduces Mama Macaroni, the matriarch owner of the cleaners that Stephanie has the unfortunate experience of working at. This character had me laughing so hard. Lula is a delight. And a crazy man from Stephanie's past gives this a page-turning four stars that had me smiling from ear to ear.
  2. Finger-Lickin' Fifteen by Janet Evanovich- ****/A dead celebrity chef, a barbeque cook-off, and a secret recipe for disaster is what awaits anyone entering the insanity of this novel. Evanovich turns up the excitement and laughs in this fifteen Stephanie Plum novel. When you laugh so hard you cry it has to be a great read.
  3. Fortune and Glory by Janet Evanovich- ***/ Stephanie Plum's twenty-seventh book continues the story from Twisted Twenty-Six as we see Grandma Mazur and Stephanie still being pursued by gangsters looking to cash in on a treasure hidden away by Mazur's dead mobster husband. The story also serves as an introduction to Evanovich's newest heroine, Gabriela Rose. However, the book feels like something I have read many times before and could have been resolved in the last book. Gabriela Rose's role is minuscule and does not serve well as a debut. She is mysterious and fashionable and says very few words. It is not until a short excerpt from Rose's first novel that we get any insight into her. Fortune and Glory was a disappointment that served nothing. At least Stephanie chose her man (at least I think she did).
  4. Lean, Mean Thirteen by Janet Evanovich-****\When Stephanie Plum's ex-husband is missing, everyone thinks she is to blame. Granted throttling him in his office in front of people did not help. This fun and fast-paced installment was another hilarious romp through the streets of New Jersey. Just watch out for the exploding taxidermy, Joyce Barnhardt.
  5. See Her Die by Melinda Leigh- ****/ Bree Taggert is back and she is now Sheriff. Dealing with sexism in the workplace is nothing new to her. But her latest case has Bree up against a missing person, a homeless teen, and a ruthless killer that has set his sights on Bree. This second book in the new series by Melinda Leigh was fast-paced and exciting. An excellent crime thriller.
  6. Sizzling Sixteen by Janet Evanovich- ****/ Stephanie's cousin Vinnie is in debt and maybe dead if the money is not raised to bail the bail bondsman out. Filled with stoner Hobbits, crazy skips, and Lula acting a bit crazier than most. This one was a funny and exciting read. I loved it.
  7. Twelve Sharp by Janet Evanovich- ****/ When a Ranger look-a-like enters Stephanie's life, the danger gets to be all too real for the bumbling bounty hunter. I had a blast with this book and loved the way it gave us more of Ranger and his past. Great Plum fun.
  8. You Are Not Alone by Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen- ***** / This novel was filled with surprises and plot twists. When Shay Miller witnesses a woman throw herself in front of a subway train, she is thrust into a world she is unprepared for. Meeting the woman's friends' Shay begins to realize that she may be in danger. Two conniving sisters slowly begin to set Shay up for murder and she has no visible way out. This book an emotional ride that had me frustrated, excited, and thrilled in the best way!
