Carrie Fisher: My Reviews

Image
Hello, Fellow Book Worms and Book Dragons!   For many years before her untimely death, Carrie Fisher was a beacon of hope and understanding for those in the world struggling with addiction and depression. Upon her passing (and that of her mother, Debbie Reynolds), the world realized with an aching heart just what they had lost.    Carrie Fisher was straight-forward about her struggles. She told her stories to give the world a chance to relax and realize that they were not alone. Three years after she became one with the Force, we will see her final performance in Star Wars Episode IX: the Rise of Skywalker. With painstaking reconstruction of footage from her Star Wars film history, we will see her once again on the big screen.      Carrie was also an accomplished Hollywood writer and author. Her work was featured on the Academy Awards, as well as in books such as Postcards from the Edge. But her one-woman show, Wishful Drinking bro...

Favorite Spooky Settings

Image
Hello, Fellow Book Worms and Book Dragons !   Happy Halloween!    Let's get spooky and delve into some chilling book settings. Here are my top 5 spooky settings: O ld , Abandoned Homes or Empty Hotels - This worked very well in several books that I have read in the past, such as the House with the Clock in Its Walls by John Bellairs and 'Salem's Lot by Stephen King . The most effective one being the Overlook Hotel from Stephen King's The Shining. Large , filled with endless rooms, and a guest list of ghosts, this was the perfect backdrop for that classic horror scare. Swamps or Murky Mors- This brings me back to the Hound of the Baskervilles by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. A creepy, atmospheric realm whe re mists blanket t he m urky ground and danger could be hiding. It worked very well for this classic mystery, bring ing the reader into the Mors . Blizzard Conditions - Again the Shining handled this very well. Stephen King's choice t...

Hello, Fellow Book Worms and Book Dragons!    Secret lives. Hidden truths. And a man at the center of a mystery that will bring several lives together. Winter in Paradise was one of my favorite books at the beginning of this year. It had mystery, romance, and some suspense. I fell in love with the Carribean locals and three-dimensional characters. This month book two has been released, which made me want to re-read book one to get myself ready. I am happy that I did because I loved it, even more, the second time around.         Winter in Paradise is the first book in a new trilogy written by Elin Hilderbrand. It is published by Little Brown & Company, an imprint of the Hatchet Book Group. In it, we are introduced to Irene Steele, a magazine editor on the way to having her role reduced at her job. Her New Year's Day is shattered by the news that her husband, Russell was killed in a helicopter crash in the Virgin Islands. Call...
