Thriller Review: It's Not Her by Mary Kubica
It's Not Her is the 10th thriller by Mary Kubica. It is published by Park Row Books, an imprint of Harlequin Books. In it we are introduced to Courtney Gray, a mother grateful to be on vacation with her family. Two cabins, one for her family and one for her brother's. It is a seemingly quiet vacation, until her brother and his wife are found murdered and her niece, Reese, is missing.
As search parties form and the police converge on the scene, Courtney is sick with worry. Where is Reese? Who killed her brother and his wife? The truth is nothing she could have conjured up in her mind. As the veil of deception is lifted, Courtney finds herself in a desperate struggle to protect the ones she loves.
It's Not Her is one of those books that you start and cannot put down. I began reading it when I woke up and was mesmerized by each chapter. I canceled my plans for the day and read until the evening. This is the type of thriller that had me guessing and always proved me wrong. Courtney and Reese are our main storytellers. Courtney in the present deals with the murders and the search for her niece. Reese in the past tells us everything that leads up to the night of the murders. They deliver plot twists that did not prepare me for the truth. This culminated in a finale that blind-sided me and had me in shock.
I read this thriller in part with the narration of Jennifer Jill Araya (Courtney), Britney Presley (Reese), and Gary Tiedemann (Detective Evans). They delivered was felt like a full-cast presentation. Voice changes and acting that enhanced my experience further. I highly recommend the audiobook.
It's Not Her is an enthusiastic 5 Star read for me. If a book that delivers high anxiety and crazy plot twists is your thing, this book is for you.
