Book Review: Fearless Fourteen by Janet Evanovich

Hello, Fellow Book Worms and Book Dragons!

Just when you thought it was safe to venture back into the Burg, Stephanie Plum is once again neck-deep in the proverbial poop. She is watching a famous musician, babysitting a crabby teenager, and may or may not be attending the wedding of Lula.

Fearless Fourteen is written by Janet Evanovich and is published by St. Martins Press. In this zany tale of kidnapping and larceny, Stephanie Plum must once again prove her worth as a fearless bounty hunter. Problem is, she is not anywhere close to being that. We begin with one of Stephanie's bond skippers getting ready to commit suicide. After having second thoughts of death, Loretta Rizzi agrees to go with Stephanie to be re-bonded. One problem, Loretta's son, Zook, will be alone while she is in jail. Luckily for Zook, Stephanie is easily coerced into taking care of the teen. Soon she has Loretta re-bonded and in jail for the time being. Since she happens to be dating Loretta's cousin, Joe Morelli, she enlists his help. She is working for Rangeman Security guarding a famous singer, named Brenda. She cannot possibly care for a teenager while doing this. Stephanie soon learns that guarding a whiny, aging singer is pretty comparable to watching a moody teen.

Then Loretta disappears and threats on her life are coming in. Her brother Dom is aloof and rumors of a fortune in cash hidden leads Stephanie and Morelli to believe Loretta is being held until the cash resurfaces. Unfortunately, Brenda decides to help her failing career by becoming a TV reality star. Her choice, bounty hunting. Soon she spills the beans about the fortune and Morelli's home is besieged by treasure hunters. He hires an old schoolmate and Zook to guard his home against treasure seekers. But can they appease Loretta's kidnappers, before they start sending Dom one piece of his sister at a time?

Fearless Fourteen was another wacky and adventurous outing with Evanovich's cast of favorites. Stephanie's ability to get herself in trouble was hilariously on display in this installment. Her faithful sidekick, Lula, was also at the top of her crazy game,  forcing a man into marriage. Grandma Mazur learned the fine art of video game warfare. And of course, we had Morelli and Ranger heating up Stephanie's life. I found this book to be a lot funnier than most of Evanovich's books in the series. She even introduced Brenda's stalker cousin, Gary, who after being struck by lightning is now clairvoyant. And Carl the Monkey returns (from Evanovich's Wicked series) as his owner, Susan Stitch, pops up in Stephanie's folder of skips. This all ended in another tense and crazy finale that involved a potato gun (you have to read it to believe it).

Lorelei King returned as the narrator for the audiobook and she was fantastic. The crazy voices and comedic timing added more to the narrative. I cannot get enough of her presentations. She is always a joy to listen to.

Fearless Fourteen was a fun four-star book that brightened my Summer reading.
