Book Review: Murder at an Irish Wedding by Carlene O'Connor

Hello, Fellow Book Worms and Book Dragons!

Cozy Mysteries are becoming my new favorite way of breaking up all of the heavy crime reading I normally do. I sometimes will need a break from the blood and gore and settle into a quiet little mystery in a quiet little village. I loved Murder in an Irish Village and I realized that soon I will continuing the series. I ventured to my bookseller and picked up the next two books in the series.

Murder at an Irish Wedding is written by Carlene O'Connor and is published by Kensinton Books. In this delightful mystery set in Ireland, we return to the village of Kilbane. Siobhan O'Sullivan is doing her best to raise her four younger siblings with the aid of her brother, James. Running Naomi's Bistro in the heart of Kilbane in the aftermath of their parents' untimely death a little over a year ago has left the family in the hearts of their neighbors, who love them dearly. Siobhan is currently in a relationship with local lawman, Macdara Flannery, Siobhan has seen enough crime to want to become a member of the local police force. Her detective skills are blossoming and she feels she may have found her true calling. For now she is a civilian annoyance that solved one murder according to the head of the police. But Siobhan has never taken no for an answer in the past, why start now?

When fashion model Alice Cahill is set to marry her fiancee at Kilbane Castle, all appears to be on track. Even though Alice and her father, Colm, are at odds on her choice of a husband. She loves Paul Donnelly and is determined to marry him even if she is stricken from her father's will. As the wedding party gather at one of the castle's beautiful locations for a group photo shoot it is discovered that one of the party is missing. Soon the body of best man Kevin Gallagher is found in the woods nearby. Soon the entire wedding party are suspects and with the aid of Naomi's Bistro and a local inn, they settle in awaiting questioning. As Siobhan begins her investigation she knows she is on the right path. But the killer is close behind to make sure she never solves the murder. Can Siobhan get through another murder in Kilbane unscathed? Or will she be the next one on a killer's list?

Murder at an Irish Wedding was just as delightful as book one. Carlene O'Connor's characters are so much fun to read about. And I love the O'Sullivan Six and their wonderful family dynamic. And little Ciaran is still cute as ever making up suspect lists and reading books on poisons. A budding detective like big sister, he adds some funny moments that only a ten year old can. I loved the wedding party and all of the guilty players involved. I was stumped for quite some time before I began to realize who the killer was. Siobhan was cheerful and optimistic and determined to catch a killer. I loved how she was at odds with the local police as they tried to keep civilians away from the investigation. It set her fire even higher and she soldiered on. But it was the second murder that tilted everything in her favor, leading to an exciting showdown.

I read Murder at an Irish Wedding in part with the narration of actress, Caroline Lennon. Lennon once again brought a bright and cherry delivery of the novel, giving each village member their unique presentation. I loved her work on book one and she did not fail to deliver on this novel. I hope that her lovely voice and Irish accent are present on further books in the series.

Another four star read from Carlene O'Connor. Murder at an Irish Wedding was a cozy,  fun time that had suspense and wit. I continue to love the O'Sullivan Six and cannot wait to see how far Siobhan will go with her desire to be part of law enforcement. I highly recommend this series to cozy mystery fans. You will not be disappointed.
