Book Review: The Princess Diarist by Carrie Fisher

Image
Hello, Fellow Book Worms and Book Dragons !   T enacity. B r avery. Strength .     This is how I desc ribe Carrie Fisher to people as I explain to them the significance that she has playe d in my life. As someone who has dealt with depression for many years, it had always been refreshing to see someo ne as famous as Carrie Fisher tell her tale of depression and substance abuse as candidly as she had. She proved to those diminished by their inner demons that they could also emerge triumphant. With her bestselling memoirs Wishful Drinking and Shokaholic , Fisher laid bare her pain, frustration, and hopes to her readers. She even took Wishful Drinking on the road as a one woman show from 2006 to 2010 . This became a hilarious HBO special that was viewed by millions. Every joke. Every word. Every emotion that Carrie gave us in her works showed us how witty, loving , and determined she was.    Now t hat I have read her last book , I have to s...

In Memory- Carrie Fisher: How Do You Say Goodbye to a Friend That You Never Met?

Hello, Fellow Book Worms and Book Dragons !   T his past December Carrie Fisher left this world to be one with the Force. This news was person ally devastati ng to me not only as a Star Wa rs fan, but as someone who has used Carrie's example of strength to further deal with my own bouts of depression. W ith every audio book I listened to with her narration, I felt that I was sitting down with an old friend.   I was to meet Carrie at a New York Com ic Con signing this past October. I was very excited, but unf ortunately life played through and  I was un able to meet her while in New York.  As disappointing as this news was, I had figured that I would be able to see her again in 2017 . Sadly I was wrong. But had I met her I would have told her that not only did her portrayal of Princess Leia enrich my childhood . But that her incredi ble candidness in her own personal life had show n me that I , too, could burst through depression and regain c...

Tuesday Talks: Favorite Female Authors

Image
Hello, Fellow Book Worms and Book Dragons !     Tuesday Talks is an wonderful group on Goodreads that is a weekly discussion forum created by BookTubers Janie Johnson and her pal, Janelle. It is a fun and active group to be a part of.    This week's question is:  What are your favorite female authors? Jackie Collins - This tell-it-like-it-is lady boss has been thrilling readers for decades with her steamy blend of sex, adventures, and Hollywood tell-alls. Her popular character, Lucky Santangelo, was featured in ten novels, and a cook book. I admire her tenacity and drive to succeed, breaking down barriers and stereotypes along the way. With 500 million books sold in over 40 countries, she has been a multiple New York Times Bestselling Author. Sadly her fight with breast cancer ended her life in 2015, leaving a legacy of amazing work. She is sadly missed by me. J.K. Rowling- Of course the woman who created Harry Potter is on this list. I ...
